Crystal Sauser, 39, was used to her husband Eric, a dental technician, handling things for her. However, after 13 years of marriage, Eric, unfortunately, passed away in February this year due to cancer. And, she was left all by herself to write an obituary for him.

She visited the Roeder Mortuary and asked for a template of some kind but did not receive any. Upset and grieving, she knew she had to do it all by herself. And while she looked many obituaries online, none of them captured the essence and life of Eric.

“If they want an obituary,” Sauser thought to herself, “I’m going to give them the obituary of a lifetime.”

And she sat down to write an obituary for her ‘dead sexy’ husband that has now gone viral because of its humour.

Describing Eric as a “Super Dad” and “just a rockin’ dude from Omaha, NE,” the obituary lists Eric’s cause of death as “either leukemia or more likely being ‘dead sexy.'”

She went on to address Eric’s vibrant personality by saying “If you knew Eric, you knew you were loved, and there is a good chance he told you that – probably sober, but maybe not.”

“Eric loved, in this order, his smoking hot wife, his brilliant kids and family, his many friends, the Boston Red Sox, the Kansas City Chiefs (before being a Chiefs fan was cool), the Huskers, Liverpool Futbol, QT iced tea, Adidas sneakers, fishing, backpacking, hiking, hunting, and any old Chevy he saw on the road,” she wrote. “Eric hated sad stories, beets, romantic comedies, a snow packed driveway and turning off the garage light.”

And how did she manage to write such an amazing tribute for her husband?

“It’s so easy to write something like this when you love them so much,” she told CNN. “Him and I were partners. We were magical.”

First diagnosed with cancer in 2019, Eric underwent many treatments, including an unsuccessful stem cell transplant, transfusions and experimental therapy in California. However, the cancer reappeared in 2020.

A devoted father to their three children – Amelia, now 11; Violet, 9; and Benjamin, 5 – and an exemplary husband, Crystal says that Eric was a gem of a person who would always want to help others and make others happy.

“I think his face is so red,” Sauser told “Good Morning America” of what Eric would think about the attention. “He’s completely embarrassed by me saying things [in the obituary] like, ‘He’s dead sexy,’ but he would be so happy that he wasn’t cookie cutter.”

“For me, to be able to put him out into the world again was so special,” she said. “It was a chance to share who he was, so people knew he wasn’t just some sick dude.”

The obituary, for obvious reasons, went viral, with many netizens applauding Crystal for her resilience and for her ability to grieve through love. A few others fell in love with Eric and wishes they could party or have a drink with him.

“He would be happy that this story is generating inspiration and love,” Crystal said. “If there’s anything Eric and I can do, it’s send some love out there.”
