The President of the United States of America Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump paid a surprise visit to the American troops stationed in Iraq. They landed at the al-Asad air base located in the western part of Iraq. In the process, he became the third American President to visit Iraq. However, this was his first visit to the nation. Notably, this came a few days after his decision to withdraw troops from the politically disturbed Syria.
Visits to conflict zones have increasingly been adopted by American Presidents. George Bush was the first one to visit Iraq followed by Barack Obama.
